Coaching is a key activity for a successful club. Without coaches beginners could not hope to enter the sport, and those in the sport would find it much harder to progress. Recognising this, DAS is committed to training and retaining sufficient coaches to enable the club to thrive. It is club policy that all coaches hold current GNAS certificates and are Enhanced CRB checked.
Coaches are not paid for their services. They are active members of the Society, and all the time they put into coaching other archers, and achieving / maintaining their own qualifications, is given voluntarily. This is a huge commitment, and results in the coaches being unable to shoot as often as they would like. For this reason the Society has to balance the wish for more coaching against the the coaches’ desire to have some time to shoot themselves. If the one outweighs the other then coaches just give up and leave, which helps nobody.
The club is also fortunate to have the services of a number of skilled & knowledgeable archers who, although not coaches, are willing to help others improve, and will assist the coaches where appropriate, within the approved GNAS coaching framework.
In addition to the formal coaching sessions, the club tries to lay on a number of ‘Master Classes’ for the benefit of all.
Finally the club participates fully in the cooperative of other coaches in the county as they train & improve their coaching skills.
